Question by Document Guy: Why is there so much golf on TV on Sundays? Are that many people into that poor excuse for a sport?
I hate golf. I’ve been on swim team all my life, I love rock climbing, riding on the bike, doing trick on my rolller blades on the ramps. I love to play football and baseball. I used to do gymnastics, but I never got a good level.

When I see golf, I just find it STUPID. I think it should be great for senior citizens, but I could never understand why would young people play it.
There’s a lot of golf on TV, WHY????
I can’t understand why would anyone play. much less watch it?

Who watches all this golf coverage?

Question by billshire111: Would golf make a good contact sport?
There would only be one ball. You and your opponet would race to hit the ball first. 1 point if you hit the ball a good distance and 18 points if you make it in the hole. Clubs would be padded for safty. I think it would be cool.

I am a huge golf fan. I don’t really like to watch golf unless its tiger but i love to play it. My high school golf team won state golf for iowa this year and I placed second on our team. I think golf is a great sport. What do you guys think?

I hate watching it,
but my high school varsity team won at conference.
And JV sucked (which is me cause im a freshman.)
But that’s ok, I love golf!

OK so here’s my theory: boxers just go in and punch each other while golfers require tremendous skill, and concentration. With that said, I don’t think boxing should even be a sport when most people can punch. Golf on the other hand, can’t be played by the average Joe.

Anyone agree with my theory?

All sports are ‘sports’. no matter how you put it. A ‘sport’ to someone else might mean slot-cars, running, chess, weight-lifting, dog trainer,….you get the idea. an average joe can do anything he/she wants. We all start out as Average Joe.

Will Tom Watson winning the British open make golf lose all credibility as a sport? Or at least lose credbility as a sport that requires any phsical fitness?

Golf hardly takes any physical activity to play. Sure you need the skill for it, but you only burn 1 calorie swinging your club. Am I right?

Question by linguist: Golf is NOT a sport, you agree?
I think its a GAME. Its a hard/controversial distinction to make, but I have good arguments. We have to define a sport and game first, then go from there. Of course, not everyone will agree, but its good discussion.
All Sports and Games have similarities, for example high skill, (maybe) physical coordination, tact, decision making under pressure(what others?)
Without having formally outlined the distinctions probably the most important are :
1.the degree of physical exertion(HIGH VS LOW)
2.the type of contact against the opponent(“hand to hand”combat VS strategic planned unopposed attack)
So according to these, Ive listed them in categories, of course, like in everything, categories never fully capture every existing possibility.
SPORTS:
Basketball, Football, Tennis, Wrestling, Soccer, Boxing
SPORTS WHICH DONT FULLY FIT MY DEFINITION(BUT, still considered sports) :
Baseball, Diving
GAMES:
Golf, PingPong, Pool, Shooting, Bowling

golf is not a sport you are right. I play it as well as soccer and still i consider it a game no matter how hard it is i think it is a game. Just like baseball is still a game no matter how much skill it takes.

In my opinion, golf is just as much a sport at any other game. It involves skill, practice, hard work, and dedication. Just because there is no risk of injury doesn’t mean its not a sport. I would like to hear your arguments or reasons as to why or why is it not a sport. Thanks!

its one of the hardest sports because its the only sport where the ball is not moving at you. I think its the hardest sport becasue timing has to be perfectevery time if you leave thee club face slightly open or closed at impact then the ballisnt going to go straight
