Question by GOAT: Recommendations for a beginner for disc golf supplies?
I want to try a new sport and some people from my work are trying to get into disc golf. I want to buy some discs to start out with but I dont know what brand to buy and where to get it. Can someone recommended a brand of disc to buy for someone starting out?

keep it simple to start out. buy some Innova discs in the dx plastic. DX is their entry level plastic, less expensive, but less resistant to damage.
buy a driver, a midrange, and a putter. just learn the three discs to start. you might consider a tee bird, a roc, and an aviar.
go online. there are dozens of dealers and plenty of other resources to help you.
most of all, have fun.

don’t know where you live, but you can use the PDGA course directory to find the courses in your area. just enter your zip code: http://www.pdga.com/course-directory

What are the best budget junior golf clubs for a 9 yr old beginner?   1 comment

Question by B-Rad486225: What are the best budget junior golf clubs for a 9 yr old beginner?
My son is just getting into golf and I want to get him a basic set that will keep him interested. I don’t want to go crazy with the price since I don’t know how well he will take care of them. We’re still working on the responsibility thing. Thanks.

At 9 years old, it’s important to ensure that the clubs fit him properly. Probabaly the best advice would be to speak to a golf professional about this. Most golf clubs (courses),have a club pro who would be happy to spend a little time with you and your son to give you proper advice. The other thing of course is that your son will outgrow his first set of clubs rather quickly so you may not want to spend a fortune.
You might be advised to enroll your son in some lessons with a reputable pro in your local area. Let the pro guide you along and make recommendations. I can’t overstate this. Getting your son started on the right path will help him to develop good habits, rather than bad ones which are difficult to break later.
Here are some articles that may help;

What specific golf clubs does a beginner need to play?I know you need a driver and a putter but what else?   5 comments

Question by Terry: What specific golf clubs does a beginner need to play?I know you need a driver and a putter but what else?
I just ordered a driver on line and that is all I own. I’m going to practice driving at a virtual golf place until it gets warmer outside. I am an absolute beginner. What would be the minimum clubs I would need to actually play a round? I am an older (54) female so think the hybrids would be good for me. I am not actually looking for brand recommendations here, but club types. That said, the Callaway GES system sounds good to me because it apparently only has seven clubs which sounds about right to me but I am having trouble finding it. Does anyone know how I could replicate that buying individual clubs? I don’t really want a full set, at least not yet. And carrying 14 clubs around, many of which I probably wouldn’t use at least not soon, sounds like a waste of energy. So what is the minimum and what are they? Please be specific because a lot of what I have read is pretty confusing. So many choices! Thanks.

If your a beginner and don’t want to carry around all the clubs at first then I would recommend just getting the basic irons 3,5,7, and 9. I would also recommend a pitching wedge and also a fairway driver like a 3 or 5 wood to start with. After that if you feel comfortable then you could fill in the rest of your set.

Question by lazysellers: What is a good golf club for a beginner at a driving range?
I just took one lesson at the driving range, and the instructor was nice enough to give me a used golf club. Even though, it allows me to practice after my lesson, it is old and worn out, and may even affecting my performance. How am I to pick out a driver that is “right” for me?

Which are more effective in a round of golf, woods or irons?

Start with the short irons. Your golf game has got to start with the short game. Putter, wedge, then 7 through 9. No short game, no low score.
